Peter and the Wolf (Peeter ja Hunt)

Peter and the Wolf (Peeter ja Hunt)

Sergei Prokofiev’s musical fairytale

A visual and theatrical music lesson for children and youths teaches them how to listen to music, which instruments play in an orchestra and what sound they make. This educational visit to the theatre is framed by the story of Peter, the Duck, the Wolf and other characters.

The orchestral suite Peter and the Wolf was written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936 and it premiered the same year at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. One of the purposes for writing this composition was to promote interest in music among young people.
