Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Day

Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Day

On March 2nd 2024 „December Rain“, a ballet inspired by Frédéric Chopin’s life and music, will premiere in the Vanemuine Theatre Small Building. The ballet portrays Chopin’s love story with the French woman author George Sand.

A day before the premiere, on March 1st at 16.00 a theme day dedicated to Frédéric Chopin and George Sand will be held in the lobby of the Vanemuine Theatre Grand Building, to introduce Chopin’s music, central themes of the ballet, and the period in which Chopin and Sand lived. This is a great opportunity to attune yourself to the upcoming performance.

The theme day will feature a presentation by the composer, music historian and pedagogue Alo Põldmäe. This will be followed a discussion panel with director-choreographer Kristina Paulin, sound designer Davidson Jaconello, pianist Margus Riimaa and soloists in leading roles of „December Rain“.

The discussion panel will take place in English, led by Vanemuine Dance Company artist Matthew James Jordan and translated into Estonian by dramaturg Kerttu Piliste.

The event is free to attend. It will be photographed.
