The author of the play, Eric Emmanuel Schmitt, is one of the most widely read and most played authors writing in French whose plays have quite often been staged in the theatres in Estonia, too. Philosopher Denis Diderot has interested the author for a long time. Schmitt also wrote his doctoral thesis about him.
