The events take place in a lousy barrack located in a faraway godforsaken place where people’s destinies open and intersect, where conflicts arise and differing attitudes toward life clash. People downtrodden by destiny try at all costs to change their lives, to start all over again.
In a play that is similar to Gorki’s The Lower Depths and to Luts’s Backyard this is filled with colourful characters, naturalistic cruelty and somewhat bitter humour.
A social drama by a middle generation Russian playwright and scriptwriter. This is a story written in the golden 1980s but staged in the new circumstances – the play is still running at Moscow’s Sovremennik and St. Petersburg’s Little Theatre.

Presented with one interval.

The premiere on 24 March 2006 in the Harbour Theatre.
