![]() Marius Petipa’s ballet version of Sleeping Beauty for the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, which first premiered in St. Petersburg’s Maria Theatre in 1890, is more than 100 years old and one of the most famous stage stories of the classical ballets. The libretto was written by Ivan Vsevoložsky based on Charles Perrault’s fairytale La Belle au Bois Dormant. Among other classical ballets Sleeping Beauty is one of the most famous. The divertissements in the fourth act of the ballet have over the years been the favourite pieces at all kinds of competitions and galas. Sleeping Beauty is a story the keywords of which have through history been the following – ancient kingdom, secret curse and true love.
