![]() This is a story of blind love, betrayal and revenge. The court jester, Rigoletto, tries vehemently to protect his beloved daughter, Gilda, from the evil world. Unfortunately he does not notice how his own instruments have become inhuman in this fight. Blinded by revenge, he unknowingly sacrifices his own daughter.
Verdi’s Rigoletto premiered on 11 March 1851 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. This opera is considered a turning point in Italian opera. Allegedly it is one of the best Italian musical dramas that has been created since Monteverdi. Rigoletto has been successful from the start – even today it is in the repertoires of opera theatres. In the Vanemuine this opera of the operas is now already being staged for the fifth time.
