"Mowgli" talking about the virtual world premieres at the Vanemuine
( 25.10.2010.a. )
On Saturday, October 30 at 19 the dance production "Mowgli" premieres at the Vanemuine Grand Building - a story about a teenage boy who is looking for his place and his own self in the great human jungle.

The Choreographer-Director and Costume Designer is Mare Tommingas. Jenny MacNamara from England helped to create a small but essential part of the movement.

Mare Tommingas said in the very beginning that this will not be an ordinary jungle story - no tails, no horns. "I have been thinking about the lack of "real things and emotions" in today's world, and the replacement activities for that - internet and the information coming from there, good as well as bad. And the border between the real and the virtual is beclouding. That is where I got the production's frame idea - a computer game. Internet is almighty, nowadays nobody protests that. It has become an everyday medium where everything seems (and mostly is) simple and possible. What motivates the young of today's world to be active, which is the understanding of human relations and one's own self? What shapes our opinions? Maybe we shouldn't let the virtual world govern us on a daily basis? Actually we are aware that other people exist, only the human touch becomes more and more distant," told Mare Tommingas.

Music to the production has been created by a young Estonian composer, arranger and pop musician Tauno Aints, whose sound language combines classical music with the musical means of jazz, rock and hip-hop.

Stage design in designer Vladimir Anšon's vision implies on the original place of action of the "Mowgli" by Rudyard Kipling but still remains as timeless as possible. The production's Music Director and Conductor is Aivo Välja (as guest), Light Designer is Margus Vaigur (Endla), Video Design is made by Ott Evestus. The title roles are danced by Takuya Sumitomo or Colin Thomas Maggs. Also participating: the Vanemuine ballet company, symphony orchestra and choir artists.
