One of the guests is Alfredo Germont who has just returned from the province and he tells Violetta how he feels. He receives a camellia flower as a gift and is allowed to come back after it has withered.

The main themes of the opera are the earthly and heavenly sides of love, love and death, sin and atonement. La Traviata is considered on of the best works of Verdi and also the work with the most realistic plot. The opera premiered in Teatro La Fenice Opera House in Venice in 1853 with a total fiasco. A year later the opera achieved immense fame in a slightly altered version and performed by outstanding singers. Today La Traviata has become one of the word's masterpieces that is performed in the repertoires of all famous opera theatres all year around.

In Italian with Estonian subtitles.

The premiere on 28 October 2004 in the Small Building of the Vanemuine.
