![]() About the king whose road to the throne was lined by rows of corpses and bloody power intrigues. About the king whose killing axe saw the fall of women and men, brothers and enemies, the guilty throne heirs and the innocent. About the king who was written into a play by William Shakespeare probably in 1591. There would be no point in reviving the life of a king who lived so long time ago if we didn’t see parallels and nodal questions running directly to today’s life. How can a freaky tyrant rise to become a king? What does power do to a man? That is the question.
The story about Richard III reaches the Vanemuine stage for the first time. For the first time in the Estonian theatre history, a Shakespeare play is put on stage by a director coming from Shakespeare’s homeland.
Premiere on October 17, 2009 at the Harbour Theatre. Video:Production gallery: |
