Estonia’s most visited theatre production "Detective Lotte" made it to DVD!
( 28.10.2010.a. )
The Vanemuine Theatre in cooperation with Estonian Public Broadcasting produced the "Detective Lotte" DVD and becomes available for purchasing on November 1 at the Vanemuine performance venues, also in Selver food stores and at the Tallinn and Tartu Kaubamaja (department store). The DVD is accompanied by a free CD with the production’s songs as the songs’ CD of "Detective Lotte" published earlier has become so popular in many homes that it has literally been "over exploited". Therefore the theatre has decided to give the new CD as a gift to the buyers of the DVD.

"There is a lack of good children's productions in Estonian theatres, there is even a greater lack of Estonian original children’s productions' records. Now, one of the most popular children’s productions, "Detective Lotte", has been recorded on DVD. The Vanemuine Theatre wishes to thank Estonian Public Broadcasting, EMT and all other supporters of the Vanemuine Theatre who helped make the capturing of a full-length theatre production possible," said Paavo Nõgene.

Last time a children's production DVD was published in Estonia was in 1999 - then it was "The Imp" (Nukitsamees) at the Estonian National Opera. That makes "Detective Lotte" the only original children’s production during the last decade to make to DVD.

"Detective Lotte" tells a gripping story about a loved dog girl Lotte who tries to figure out who she would like to become when she grows up. The dawning day gives her a great idea for unexpectedly the sugar machine that her father Oskar has invented disappears. Naturally the curious Lotte and her friend Bruno decide to become detectives in order to solve the mystery and find the sugar machine.

The libretto authors of "Detective Lotte" are Janno Põldma and Heiki Ernits, the great words for songs were written by Leelo Tungal and the dynamic music by Priit Pajusaar. The production's director is Ain Mäeots, music director and conductor is Tarmo Leinatamm. The designer is Iir Hermeliin, choreographer is Janek Savolainen and light designer is Tõnu Eimra.

Gerli Padar impersonates Lotte and her assistant Bruno by Robert Annus. In other roles: Aivar Tommingas, Maria Soomets, Margus Jaanovits, Maarja Mitt, Tanel Jonas and others.

The "Detective Lotte" that premiered at the Vanemuine Theatre in November 2008 was Estonia's most visited theatre production in 2009, during a year it collected 28 062 visits. The production's current number of visitors already amounts to almost 55 000 visitors.

"Detective Lotte" is the second DVD by the Vanemuine Theatre to record an original Estonian theatre production. The first in that line was the rock opera RUJA.

"Detective Lotte" DVD viewers can choose Estonian, English as well as Russian subtitles for the production.
