Elusive Miracle(Tabamata ime)Drama in two acts. Very soon a hundred years will have passed from the birth (1912) of the school classic Vilde's "Elusive Miracle" (Tabamata ime). During this whole time the play has belonged to the absolute golden fund of Estonian stage classics and many noted Estonian directors and actors have measured their strength against that text. More than half a century has passed since the last "Elusive Miracle" at the Vanemuine (1952, directed by Epp Kaidu) - that is another reason why to try to look at that famous play with a new glance.

![]() In the history of Estonian theatre "Elusive Miracle" has been tried to unlock with a number of different conceptual keys. Once they have seen Leo Saalep, the home returned pianist, as the incarnation of inflated lack of talents, then as a great artist; her muse, Eva Marland, is once seen as the "sunshine lady" carrying ideals, then as a destructible, art-alienated mediocrity; Leo's wife, Lilli Ellert, is once seen as a fury and then an honest linear maximalist.
It is certain that the term "Europe", where Leo Saalep returns from and where the majority of characters desire to go, and which is repeatedly heard in the play, has today obtained a connotation that has not been there during the preparation of any of the past productions of "Elusive Miracle".
Premiere on February 19, 2011 at the Vanemuine Small Building. Production gallery: |
