Drama

Elling (Elling og Kjell Bjarne)

A humorous and affectionate story of two men, who after spending many years in a care institution, are switching to the everyday life of ordinary people. And it seems scary as these two middle-aged men have never had to organise their lives before. Who does the cleaning, who does the shopping? How does one meet women?

The major victories of these two grown-up men in little things remind us how unique the things that happiness is made of are. And these components are different for everyone.

Elling, written by Norwegian author Ingvar Ambjørnsen, was dramatised by his countryman, Axel Hellstenius, in 1999. The play premiered the same year in Oslo and was a huge success (125 performances and 60,000 viewers). Peter Næss, the first director of the play, also made a film about it a few years later which has also been screened in Estonia during PÖFF.

Premiere on 8 December 2006 at the Tartu German Institute for Culture.
