This Friday, on November 5 at 7 P.M"Nutcracker" is re-premiered - the grand ballet with striking decorations and beautiful music. The production premiers at the Grand Building.
Two orphans Petter and Lotta live together with aunts Brown, Green and Lavender. It is their first Christmas together when children are allowed to get a Christmas tree from the forest and decorate it. The Christmas preparations are underway. A whole deal of this Christmas mayhem is incomprehensible for children, as they haven’t spent Christmas before. And now the guests and Yule Goat arrive with presents...Lotta gets nutcrackers shaped as the goat’s head and Peter gets a cockhorse. When the guests have left, it is time for the children to get to bed and only then the truly magic adventures begin...
The music is written by Pjotr Tšaikovski, libretto by Pär Isberg and Erik Näslun, the story is based on Elsa Beskov’s children’s book "Peter’s and Lotta’s Adventure". Choreography is also by Pär Isberg (Sweden), musical director and conductor is Lauri Sirp, stage design by Bo-Ruben Hedwall (Sweden), costume design by Ann-Mari Anttila (Sweden), lighting design by Torkel Blomkvist (Sweden).
Pär Isberg’s "Nutcracker" opened the first time on November 26 in 2004 at Vanemuine Grand Building and it was a successful play until January 2010. There were altogether 61 performances to 30 679 visitors. Now it is time for the new production with mostly new cast. "Nutcracker" has been staged at Vanemuine also earlier – in 1955 by ballet master Ida Urbel, in 1979 by ballet master Igor Tšernošov and in 1994 by choreographer Mare Tommingas.
Pär Isberg’s choreography combines classical toe dance with a more informal style. "It is my way of interpreting the ballet. I do wish to preserve the classical heritage but nevertheless I also cherish the modern way of thinking. Naturally I hold on to all the versions of "Nutcracker" that I have seen through years and danced in", said the director Pär Isberg.
Pär Isberg’s "Nutcracker" is very Scandinavian – the Yule Goat, ginger bread cookies and Christmas magic. The story is simple, beautiful and easy to follow. The production includes many wonderful characters from whom children can choose their favourite", said the ballet director Mare Tommingas.
